Our rapid overmolding prototyping services can product prototypes and on-demand production parts in around 2 weeks. Our in-house engineers use cost efficient aluminum molds allowing us to offer you low-cost tooling options. We plastic over mould and insert mould parts using a wide range of materials from thermoplastics and TPE to liquid silicone and rubber materials. We plastic over mold and insert mold in days.
Our over molding services fall into three categories: Insert Molding, two-shot molding, and co-injection molding.
Let IG8 know about your metal die stamping project requirements today.
Plastic Insert Molding: we mold soft rubber and silicone elastomers such as TPE and TPR into rigid plastics. We separate the hard segment in the insert design in advance. Next, we heat the elastomer sufficiently so a bond can be formed. Finally, we eject or insert the soft elastomer material inside and it bonds to the plastic.
Plastic Two-Shot Molding: we use two injection mold machines. Hard segment is plastic injected first. Then the soft material mold is injected with elastomeric silicone or rubber. The molds are designed so they project laterally so when the materials connect, a stable mechanical bond is achieved.
Co-injection molding: instead of using two molds as in two-shot molding, we use inject the hard plastic and soft silicone rubber material into the same mold. Compatibility of materials must be confirmed by our engineers first and co-injection molding must be done in a controlled environment.
